Surface Processes

Surface Processes at U of A Geosciences focuses on sediment transport by gravity and fluid-driven shear stresses (by river flow, wind, and glacial sliding) and the resulting landscape evolution and risks to lives and infrastructure.

U of A researchers working in this area focus on a wide range of time scales, from individual rain or wind events to the millions of years associated with mountain building. We are particularly interested in how climate and tectonic changes have and likely will continue to modify Earth's surface.
