Dr. McGuire's research focuses on geomorphology and landslide hazards. A fundamental goal of his landslide hazards research is to help safeguard lives and protect infrastructure by improving our ability to predict when and where debris flows will occur as well as what they will impact. He also develops and applies landscape evolution models to better understand the processes that control the shape and function of landscapes. He teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses that focus on Earth surface processes, programming and data analysis, field studies in geomorphology, and geologic hazards.
