Student Organizations and Opportunities
GeoDaze
GeoDaze, The University of Arizona Geosciences Symposium, is an entirely student-run conference. For over 50 years, GeoDaze continues to provide graduate and undergraduate students with the opportunity to present their latest research to the community and to receive feedback from professionals in industry, government, and academia. The event includes both oral and poster presentations and a keynote address.
Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG)
AWG is a national, non-profit organization, whose aim is to "encourage the participation of women in the geosciences; to exchange educational, technical, and professional information; and to enhance the professional growth and advancement of women in the geosciences." The Southern Chapter was created by our graduate students and faculty members in 2018.
Society of Earth Science Students (SESS)
The Society of Earth Science Students is an undergraduate club within the Geosciences department that is open to all majors who are interested in the study of Earth sciences and systems, including: Geology, Geophysics, Climatology, Oceanography, Hydrology, Paleontology, Geography, Planetary Science, and Dendrochronology. We host weekly meetings that are structured to keep the undergraduates informed about departmental talks, trips, and research opportunities.
University of Arizona Society of Economic Geologists
Established in 1988, the University of Arizona’s SEG chapter is an organization of students interested in the study of ore deposits and in the minerals resource industry. The club is dedicated to giving students the opportunity to learn about aspects of their chosen field through field trips and social events. All are welcome to join. Fun fact! The University of Arizona maintains one of the largest economic geology programs in the nation.
