Honors

Students who wish to graduate with honors in Geosciences will be required to fulfill the Honors College requirements. This includes an Honors Thesis Research Project for which the student will enroll in 3-units of GEOS 498H Honors Thesis course work within the final two semesters of their academic career in the GEOS B.S. program.

Students who are not currently active in the Honors College may self-nominate for admission to the Honors College if they meet certain criteria. View the Honors requirements, engagement opportunities, and more on the Honors College website.

The Geosicence department offers several opportunities for Honors Students to earn honors credits within GEOS courses, as well as the opportunity to contract non-honors GEOS courses for honors credit.

Do you still have questions?

Students may contact their Undergraduate Advisor for more information on GEOS B.S. degree requirements and how they can fit their honors requirements into their semester-by-semester planning. Students can schedule an advising appointment via the Trellis Advise system; just select Trellis Advise from the Advise drop-down menu in your UAccess Student Center.

Students on the EOC or Gem Science sub-plan may complete a thesis for their capstone requirement in Geosciences (GEOS 498 enrollment). Expectations for the senior thesis are the same as for an honors thesis however these students are not required to submit to the honors college.
