Martha Gomez-Sapiens

Researcher Scientist IV

Dr. Martha Gómez-Sapiens research is focused on riparian ecology, remote sensing, and transboundary water management. For over a decade, she has played a pivotal role in the restoration of the Colorado River Delta, conducting collaborative research on ecosystem responses to environmental flows under the binational agreements Minutes 319 and 323 between the U.S. and Mexico. Her work integrates field-based monitoring, drone surveys, and satellite imagery to assess vegetation dynamics and habitat health.
Dr. Gómez-Sapiens co-leads the Minute 323 Binational Science Team, a multidisciplinary group that provides scientific guidance for restoration planning and water delivery strategies. Her research has been published in journals such as Restoration Ecology, Ecological Engineering, and Remote Sensing, and she has contributed to numerous technical reports and collaborative initiatives focused on wetland conservation and avian ecology.
She holds a Ph.D. in Soil, Water, and Environmental Science from the University of Arizona, a Master’s in Environmental Biology from UNAM, and a Bachelor’s in Ecology from the Centro de Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora. Dr. Gómez-Sapiens is committed to advancing ecological restoration through science-based collaboration and innovative monitoring techniques.
