Katleho Ramotso is a graduate student researcher with an interest in seismology, environmental hazards and science policy. She has a background in Geosciences and does research associated with underground energy storage sites in the U.S. Gulf Coast. Her research focuses on using microearthquakes and seismic data to identify tremor-like events and patterns to assess deformation associated with underground storage caverns to improve hazard assessments.

Research Interests:

I have an interest in geophysics, specifically the overlap with seismology and environmental policy. My research is focused on looking at underground energy storage sites in the U.S. Gulf Coast and how this research can provide policy frameworks for seismic monitoring at these sites. I am working on seismic data from the collapse of a salt cavern in Louisiana and using the data to improve hazard assessments for environmental protection and public safety.

Awards and Recognitions:
  • Department of Geosciences Outstanding Senior for Spring 2025
  • Seismological Society of America Student Travel Grant recipient (2025)
  • Galileo Circle Scholar (2024-2025)
