Guido Merino
I am an exploration geologist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I obtained my Honor’s Bachelor’s Degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires in 2017, where I was part of the Geophysics Institute Daniel A. Valencio. In 2016, I attended the Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences Institute in the University of Sao Paulo, as part of research studies for my thesis on paleomagnetism and Sedimentology of the Neuquén oil and gas basin in Argentina.
In 2018 I had the chance to work as a Junior Geologist in the Josemaria and Nacimientos Cu-Au exploration projects, both in the San Juan province, Argentina. The following year I went on to work as Project Geologist for Filo Mining Corp. and in 2021 I became Project Chief Geologist of the Filo del Sol project, where I was part of the team that made its first scientific publication.
I am now a MS student under Dr. Hervé Rezeau’s supervision in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona. My research will focus on characterizing the mineralization present in the Filo del Sol deposit, a Cu-Au porphyry and high-sulfidation epithermal Cu-Au-Ag system, located in Andean Cordillera between the Argentinian and Chilean border. The aim is to better understand the interaction between the porphyry and epithermal environments by characterizing the ore and geochemical signatures of these.
