Marta Codeço is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the Geosciences Department at the University of Arizona, specializing in Economic Geology. Additionally, she is a Guest Researcher at GFZ Potsdam (Germany).

Her research experience and interests center on the geochemistry of mineralizing systems, igneous and metamorphic petrology, mineral exploration, and links between magmatism and metallogeny. From the macro- to the micro-scale, Marta employs a combination of field relationships (including geological mapping and core logging), petrographic analysis, high-resolution imaging, in-situ analytical techniques, whole-rock lithogeochemistry, and numerical modeling of ore systems.

She earned a BSc in Geology and Natural Resources and an MSc in Economic Geology from the University of Lisbon, Portugal (2012, 2015) and a Ph.D. in Geochemistry from the University of Potsdam, Germany (2019).

Research Interests:
  • Geochemistry of ore deposits, links between magmatism and metallogeny, igneous and metamorphic petrology
  • Education and professional education in Economic Geology
Awards and Recognitions:

2018 -- Travel Grant for the SEG Conference 2018 in Keystone, CO, USA, awarded by the Society of Economic Geologists
2015 -- Academic Merit Scholarship for the best Master’s Student in Geology, awarded by the University of Lisbon – Faculty of Sciences and Caixa Geral de Depósitos
