UA Geosciences alum Dr. Dani DellaGiustina will become the principal investigator of OSIRIS-APEX, an extension of NASA's OSIRIS-REx asteroid sampling mission.

NASA has extended the University of Arizona-led mission, which will be renamed OSIRIS-APEX, to study near-Earth asteroid Apophis for 18 months. Apophis will make a close approach to Earth in 2029. The extension adds another $200 million to the mission cost cap. Read more on the UA News that features this article.

Lunar and Planetary Sciences assistant professor and OSIRIS-REx deputy principal investigator Daniella DellaGiustina is to become principal investigator of OSIRIS-APEX. 

Dani received her PhD from the Department of Geosciences, University of Arizona in 2021.  Congratulations Dani!
