PhD candidate Arkadeep Roy awarded Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology Grant

PhD candidate Arkadeep Roy has just been awarded the very competitive adn prestigious Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology Grant. The grant is NASA’s equivalent of NSF’s Graduate Fellowship, and will fund the remainder of Arkadeep’s PhD. This is another feather in his cap as he was also recently awarded GSA’s Graduate Student Research Grant and was previously awarded the Mineralogical Society of America’s Grant for Student Research in Mineralogy and Petrology. His dissertation is based on investigating the thermal state and wetness of the Moon’s interior and understanding their effects on the process of lunar differentiation. - FINESST (2023 call) - Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology solicits proposals from accredited U.S. universities and other eligible organizations for graduate student-designed and performed research projects that contribute to Science Mission Directorate’s (SMD) science, technology, and exploration goals. The graduate student shall have the primary initiative to define the proposed FINESST research project and must be the primary author, with input or supervision from the proposal's Principal Investigator (PI) or mentor, as appropriate. The proposal must present a well-defined research problem/activity and a justification of its scientific significance to NASA. - GSA Student Research Grant 2024 - The primary role of the GSA research grants program is to provide partial support of master's and doctoral thesis research in the geological sciences for graduate students enrolled in universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. The primary goals of the award are to (i) support graduate student research in the geosciences and ultimately enhance the geoscience workforce, (ii) provide career development opportunity for students by gaining experience with grants writing, project development and research, and (iii) increase the diversity of the geosciences through opportunities for students of underrepresented communities to achieve success in research. - MSA Grant for Student Research in Mineralogy and Petrology 2023 - The Mineralogical Society of America's Grants for Student Research In Mineralogy And Petrology are funded by an endowment created by contributions from the MSA membership. The grant comprises two awards of up to $5,000 each for research in mineralogy and petrology. The award selection will be based on the qualifications of the applicant, the quality, innovativeness, and scientific significance of the research, and the likelihood of success of the project.
