Research | Geophysics

Six faculty members, four postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students work in the areas of global seismology, reflection seismology, geodynamics, geodesy, and paleomagnetism. A major research focus of the seismology group is field-based studies of the seismic structure and fabric of the Earth's crust, lithosphere, and mantle, with a geographic emphasis on mountain belts in the western US and South America. The geodynamics group covers a wide range of topics with an overall focus on plate tectonics, continental deformation, and surface uplift.
