- November 9-12, 2009. Athens Georgia. The first Millennium Conference of the Ecological Society of America: Water-Ecosystem Services, Drought, and Environmental Justice will bring together ecological and social scientists and students to explore the development of scientifically and socially sound solutions to water allocation in times of drought. The ultimate objective is to reduce conflicts among water users, enhance environmental justice, and more effectively manage public responses to water scarcity. This conference will bring together representatives from the U.S.-Mexican border states, federal officials, local water agencies and academia to discuss drought in the border area, including climatic drivers, the outlook for improving climate forecasting skills, the possibility of long-term drying trends in the region, and Colorado River Basin/Rio Grande Basin drought management activities.
