Plant: Deciduous tree, 18-23 m, pyramidal to oblong crown. Stems rounded to somewhat angled, often developing corky wings. Leaves alternate, 10-18 cm wide, star-shaped (5-7 lobed), finely serrate, deep glossy green. Mace-like fruit persist into winter.

Pollen spherical, 35-40 µm., periporate with 12-20 pores. Pore membranes with elements.
