Logistics & Schedule

The size of the group will be ~20 students, and thus a student/instructor ration of 6:1 will be maintained throughout the course. The instructors (Peter DeCelles and Jay Quade) have extensive research and teaching experience in the geology of western North America and with the regional geology of Utah and Nevada in particular. The field school departs from and returns to Tucson in university vehicles. Travel will be entirely in university vehicles; no personal vehicles are allowed. We will be camping out the entire time, sometimes at designated U.S. Forest Service sites, other times on public land.

PhotoEach student will need to bring a rock hammer, map board, notebook, a hand lens, and camping equipment. Brunton compasses, acid bottles, and all mapping base materials will be provided.

A detailed equipment list is included in the application.
